Import & Migration

Migrate from Ghost to Writizzy

Same features you love — newsletters, paid subscriptions, custom domains, and themes — at a fraction of the price. Import your Ghost blog in minutes with zero data loss.

Why creators switch from Ghost

Ghost is a great product — but its pricing scales with your audience, and self-hosting is a headache. Writizzy gives you the same capabilities without the growing bill.

Dramatically Lower Pricing
Ghost starts at $9/mo for just 500 members and scales to $199/mo as you grow. Writizzy offers a flat monthly fee regardless of your audience size — no surprise bills as your blog takes off.
0% Platform Commission
Ghost Pro takes no commission, but the hosting costs add up fast. Writizzy keeps pricing flat and predictable — you connect your own Stripe and keep every dollar your subscribers pay.
Similar Feature Set, Simpler Setup
Newsletters, paid subscriptions, custom domains, themes, and member management — all built in. No need to self-host, manage servers, or update software manually.
No Self-Hosting Required
Love Ghost but tired of managing your own VPS, database backups, and Node.js updates? Writizzy is fully managed — we handle hosting, security, and performance so you can focus on writing.
Built-In Newsletter
Send newsletters to your subscribers directly from your dashboard. Segment by tier, schedule sends, and track open rates — no third-party email service needed.
Themes and Customization
Choose from multiple professionally designed themes and customize colors, fonts, and layout. No need to learn Handlebars templating or hire a developer.

How to migrate from Ghost

Four steps, under 10 minutes. No technical skills required.

  1. 1
    Export your Ghost content
In your Ghost admin panel, go to Settings, then Labs, and click Export. This downloads a JSON file containing all your posts, pages, tags, and metadata.
  2. 2
    Upload to Writizzy
Log into your Writizzy dashboard, navigate to Settings, then Import, and upload your Ghost JSON export file. The importer automatically maps your content structure.
  3. 3
    Review your content
Browse through your imported posts to verify formatting, images, and tags came through correctly. Make any adjustments needed — most content transfers cleanly with no changes required.
  4. 4
    Update your DNS
If you use a custom domain, update your DNS records to point to Writizzy. Your readers will seamlessly land on your new blog without noticing the switch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I migrate from a self-hosted Ghost instance?

Yes. The migration process works the same whether you use Ghost(Pro) or a self-hosted installation. Just export your content as a JSON file from the Ghost admin panel (Settings > Labs > Export) and upload it to Writizzy. The importer handles both formats identically.

What happens to my paying members when I switch?

Writizzy imports your member email addresses, but paid subscription billing does not transfer automatically because Ghost and Writizzy use separate Stripe integrations. You will need to invite your paying members to re-subscribe on your new Writizzy blog. We recommend sending a migration announcement email through Ghost before switching, giving subscribers a direct link to your new subscription page.

Will my Ghost theme work on Writizzy?

Ghost themes (built with Handlebars) are not directly compatible with Writizzy. However, Writizzy offers multiple built-in themes that cover most common blog layouts. You can customize colors, fonts, and structure without writing code. Most creators find a theme that matches or improves on their Ghost design within minutes.

Do I need to reconfigure my newsletter settings?

Yes, you will need to set up your newsletter configuration in Writizzy — including sender name, reply-to address, and any segmentation rules. Your subscriber list imports automatically, but delivery settings are specific to each platform. The setup takes just a few minutes from the Writizzy dashboard.
