Import & Migration

Migrate from Medium to Writizzy

Own your content, own your audience. Import your Medium posts in minutes and start publishing on your own domain — with real monetization, full design control, and no algorithm deciding who reads your work.

Why creators leave Medium

Medium is great for discovery — but you are building on rented land. Take back control of your content, your audience, and your revenue.

Own Your Domain
On Medium, your content lives at medium.com. On Writizzy, you publish on your own custom domain — building brand authority and SEO equity that belongs to you, not a platform.
Own Your Subscriber List
Medium does not let you export your followers. With Writizzy, you collect email addresses directly and own your subscriber list — no platform standing between you and your readers.
Monetize Directly
Forget the Medium Partner Program and its opaque payout algorithm. Set your own subscription price, connect Stripe, and keep 100% of what your readers pay — with 0% platform commission.
Full Design Control
Medium gives every blog the same look. Writizzy offers multiple themes, custom colors, fonts, and layouts — so your blog looks like yours, not like everyone else on Medium.
No Algorithm Dependency
Medium controls who sees your posts through its recommendation algorithm. On Writizzy, your content reaches subscribers directly via newsletter — no middleman deciding your distribution.
SEO That Works for You
When you publish on Medium, Google ranks medium.com — not you. On your own domain, every backlink and search ranking builds your site authority, driving long-term organic traffic.

How to migrate from Medium

Export, upload, review, publish. The whole process takes under 15 minutes.

  1. 1
    Request your Medium export
Go to your Medium settings, click "Security and apps", then "Download your information". Medium will email you a ZIP file containing all your posts within a few minutes.
  2. 2
    Upload the ZIP to Writizzy
Log into your Writizzy dashboard, go to Settings, then Import, and upload the ZIP file you received from Medium. The importer parses your HTML posts and converts them to clean Markdown.
  3. 3
    Review and clean up formatting
Browse your imported posts to check formatting, embedded images, and code blocks. Medium exports are HTML-based, so some custom embeds may need minor adjustments.
  4. 4
    Set up your custom domain
Connect your own domain to Writizzy so your blog has a professional, branded URL. If you do not have a domain yet, you can start with your free yourname.writizzy.com subdomain.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my Medium follower list?

Unfortunately, no. Medium does not include follower email addresses in its data export. The best approach is to publish a final post on Medium announcing your move to your new blog, include a direct link to your Writizzy subscription page, and share the announcement on social media. Many creators also add a note to their Medium bio with a link to their new site.

How well does Medium formatting transfer?

Standard formatting — headings, bold, italic, lists, blockquotes, images, and links — transfers cleanly. Medium-specific embeds (like embedded Medium posts or custom widgets) may need manual replacement. Code blocks and image captions are preserved. We recommend reviewing your most important posts after import to catch any edge cases.

Can I use a custom domain right away?

Yes. You can connect your own domain during or after the import process. If you already own a domain, just update your DNS records to point to Writizzy. If you do not have one yet, your blog will be accessible at yourname.writizzy.com until you are ready to add a custom domain.

I write for a Medium publication — can I import those posts?

Your Medium data export includes all posts you authored, including those published under a publication. However, posts you did not write (by other publication contributors) are not included in your export. If you manage a publication and want to migrate all content, each author will need to export and import their own posts separately.
